One totally non-technical reason to IPL (for any kind of OS) can be this: Over the course of time, subsystems/services/processes/etc (depending on your OS) may have been started manually - yet not added to QSTRUP (or the equivalent on other OS'es). When you finally do need to IPL the system, something doesn't work and you're scratching your head trying to figure out what happened. (Maybe this is more likely at shops with many admins and/or many systems). A periodic IPL (whatever you define that as) will give you that warm fuzzy feeling that the system and it's applications will always startup correctly. Scott Lindstrom
