You cannot open an i5/OS console through WebSM. You *CAN* open an AIX or
Linux console through WebSM.

5250 must be done via the connection to port 2300.

According to
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v1r2s/en_US/info/iphai/remo

tehmc.htm#remotehmc
About the only things you can't do are:
"There are some tasks you cannot perform using the remote client. These
tasks include determining the level of HMC code, restarting the HMC
interface, and configuring System Manager Security for certificate
authority
or viewing overview and status information."

There is WebSM, but that only gives you access to the non-console HMC
functions. For remote console, I think you still need to telnet in on
port
2300.

There is actually an HMC client. I'd like to find a url for you, but, as
you can see from my previous posts I am trying to slay the Infocenter vs
Java dragon.

Hey, if Op's console was an option to you, then an HMC client shouldn't be

too much of a stretch. Although, unlike a slew of other people, I found
Op's Console to be rock solid. That HMC though (curse like an Ent).

RE: HMC and other consoles

They do need restricted state and (even when not restricted) the QSYSOPR
message queue in break mode and access to QCTL (to diagnose the system
when
the rare performance issue creeps up).

We could give them PCOM access to the HMC (telnet to the HMC on port
2300),
but then they need a signon to the HMC (which might be better to avoid),
and
a bit of knowledge to sign on to the HMC and pick the right system if the
session goes down.
