OK - guess it's possible you have newer HIPERS applied than they do. I'll
have them order a new set. Thanks.

Re: V5R3 refuses to use Local HOST table first

from 5250 I did
ping rob and the address was 10.10.222.69
No host table entry on the i5 for that.
then I did a ping gdspc40 and the address was 10.10.222.191. So I added a

host table entry for rob to point to 10.10.222.191. Then I did another
ping rob and it immediately pinged 10.10.222.191. Option 12 points to
*local and it sure looks like it's doing that.
PTF
ID Status
TL04272 Temporarily applied

V5R3 refuses to use Local HOST table first

Anyone seeing this (on a V5R3 system at cumulative PTF level C4272530).
Despite the fact the system is set up (CFGTCP #12) with *LOCAL in the Host

Name Search Priority, it is waiting for a response from a DNS server (15
to 30 seconds) before it looks up and resolves an entry from the local
host table. Easily tested by making a local host table entry for an IP
address that isn't in the DNS servers and trying to ping it - it waits 15
to 30 seconds before resolving it.
