Out of paper messages? Mount special form messages? Things like that.... Someone needs to monitor the message queue for these messages and then attend to the issue. The writer starts automatically on IPL. When the system starts the writer, it assigns it to QSYSOPR message queue by default. As I recall, there is one message that must be answered the first time after starting the writer, but otherwise I've never seen any messages waiting on our remote printer devices....
