Subject
Question on IPL "types"

Hi Folks,

Had a friend at a company that has acquired another company and he is now
responsible for keeping an eye on this additional AS/400 located a LONG
way
from here. He noticed that the system value QABNORMSW was set to
1(abnormal)
indicating that the last IPL was abnormal and told them that they might
start thinking of a time that when they could do a normal IPL..

He got this back from them:

I have scheduled an ipl of the system for Sunday PM Nov 21 at 23:55 pm
(SbmIplGrp2). I am using a special program I wrote that ipl's the system

without turning off all the disks arrays due to the worry of having
additional sticky fans in the third tower. I missed scheduling the job in

Oct. Thanks.

And was asking me what kind of program they could have written that did
this. The only thing I could think of is they are doing a Powerdown with
Restart(*YES) and everything "under the covers" stays active ?

Oh, and there is no maintenance on this machine to get the fans replaced.
Unreal.

Thanks !

Chuck
