Tim,

There have been some great replies to this thread. If there is no computer
staff, I'd suggest that you take a look at basic systems
operation/administration. The AS/400-iSeries can be run from the system
menus. Type GO MAIN for the main menu (if this doesn't come up when you sign
on), or GO SYSTEM for the primary operations menu. If you are in the
situation of no computer staff, it sounds like a great opportunity. Ask for
training. IBM has courses in Systems Administration and other companies
offer courses, either in classrooms, online, or via DVD/CD-ROM. These
sources also offer programming courses.

Check around for a user group. If you tell us where you are, someone here
can tell you if there is a group close to you. Here's a link to Common's
user group page, listing some user groups and their meeting/contact
information. http://www.common.org/Conferences/conf_events.html

Common is a great conference, held every spring and fall. It provides a
wealth of information and instruction. IBM's Technical Conference is another
twice a year conference with a good reputation.

Steve,

What tools do I have?...well...What tools might have come with our iseries?

I know how to STRSDA...

I guess I can google the &^% out of that, use the F1 key and I do have a CL
redbook. Is that my best bet?

No one else here get's past choosing an option on a menu...

Tim & Tena,

It good to see that there are still new faces coming into the iSeries
programming world. To develop screens to prompt for user input, you need to
start looking at the SDA utility. After the screen is developed, you can use
CL, RPG or any other language you are familiar with to display the screen
and read back the variables you prompted for. Then you can feed that to your
report to make the selections you need.

I'm still getting started with the WDSCi development tools so I can't
comment on how to use them to develop screens.

What is type of tools do you have? Are there any others at your location
with iSeries programming experience?
