IMHO I read with interest the article about IBM's revenues being announced at COMMON, and how it went over like a lead balloon My guess is that marketing has had a lot to do with the dismal figures, but I also feel the time has come for IBM to shelve it's stubborn adherence to it's EBCDIC machine code, and start swimming upstream with the rest of the Extended ASCII fish. Our loyal Midrange crowd also deserve, the ability to load the latest OS version on our laptops, or desk tops, and not have to continually be dependent on the midrange hardware.
