No you do not need to buy a second license of OS/400 to run another LPAR 
on the same machine.  In fact you do not need extra licenses of other IBM 
LPP's.  For example if you buy Query/400 it covers all partitions on the 
same box.

I am not that ambitious, yet.

I asked the question with the idea of backing up the AS/400 to this
device at night, possibly duplicating over WAN/internet to another
box, and spooling to tape during the day.  The LPAR concept sounds
good, although wouldn't I have to buy another license of OS/400 to do
it?
