RE: remote journal

Jim, we are doing it for 2 of our clients.  In one, using remote journaling
was too slow, so we journal locally, and then FTP the journals to the back
up machine at night and apply them.  Of course we are always a day behind,
but this is fine for the client.  Both machines are in the Atlanta area.

For the other we have a b/u AS400 in Jax that we send journals to for
update.  The main AS400 is in our data center.  Same parameters, always a
day behind.  

Our solution has worked well, and has been quite a bit less expensive than
the commercial products available.  However, if you need up to date, real
time sync, then I think a product like Data Mirror is the way to go.  We
have one client who syncs 6 AS400s in their remote facilities back to a
central b/u in their corporate office in real time.  The back up box is also
used as the data collection point for the data they make available on the
web for their customers.

How successful has homegrown remote journalling been in keeping multiple
