Keep File from locking in back or keep it from backup

Hello,

I have a file that I use to monitor our backup. Here are the steps:

1) The backup starts
2) My CL program submits, clear BJBW001F and BJBW002F before I {CPYSPLF    
FILE(QPDSPAJB) TOFILE(BJBW001F) SPLNBR(*LAST)} and {CPYF       
FROMFILE(BJBW001F) TOFILE(BJBW002F}.

3) The problem I have is the backup locks my two files. Should I take the clear 
out and delete the record after I gotten the job information.  I use this 
command to capture the backup job number as I monitor it. Or is there away to 
stop the backup from backup up these files.
