We have our hardware maintenance through IBM and pay quarterly. We have an 820 (fc= 23AB) for which we pay (quarterly) $3200 and a 3570 tape drive that we pay $540. So I would say you got a much better quote on the 820 and far worse on the tape drive (my .02). We have not had any problems with our 3570 tape drive, coming from an 8mm seems like the greatest thing since sliced bread, but we haven't used anything else. 2 years ago we got a quote from another vendor. They provided us with a list of references, which we tried to call. We finally reached one of the references and asked several questions, including response time. With a system down situation, the reference reported that the proposed vendor responded "very fast, usually in only 10 - 12 hours". Then we received the quote, over 10% more than IBM. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jim Hawkins Eimo Americas He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose. -- Jim Elliot +--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
