No prob, Eric. Many's the time I thought something existed because I wanted it to. Am now trying to convince my daughter, while learning to drive, that cars don't disappear just because she wants them to.

Question still sits here, tho' - how to handle the original problem. I'm not aware of the ability to append on GETs in any client. The version of GET in Windows does not even have the (R - a get just overwrites the local file.

Someone on the list has the FTP API (Scott Klement?) - might have what you want - runs on the 400, gives you much better programmatic control than scripts. You would probably do somethign like CPYF MBROPT(*ADD) after the transfer, if that capability is not there already.

I guess I'm not so sure after all, Vern. <g> You've convinced me that I
probably missed the boat... I inferred the append bahavior, since that
would be the opposite action for (replace.

I've probably never hit this issue, since I've never needed to append with
GET. We're always going the other direction....

Are you sure? When I've used GET without (R it does nothing except tell me the file is already there. Here's part of the iSeries FTP client help for the GET:

(REPLACE This variable is optional. Writes over the localfile
if it already exists. The localfile will not be
overwritten unless you specify (REPLACE. The GET
subcommand displays a message saying that a file member
or folder document with that name already exists.

There is an APPEND subcommand, but it is for sending out to the server -
PUT replaces, APPEND adds.
