Hi Jill,

I have mostly a distribution back ground, some manufacturing, but have been
involved with the financial side of coding most of these last 19 years.

I have worked with Lawson, JDE and Infinium (software 2000 for us "old folks")

I still do not "trust" Lawson - having worked there for a bit, but I will be the
first to admit at that time they were going through many changes but I have not
seen any recent code/functionality (in the last 5 years).

For robustness, JDE is at the top, but it also complicates the set-up and
integration.

Infinium is simpler to set-up and maintain, and integration is easier.

I prefer Infinium, easier to code and the cost of ownership is less;
JDE people are expensive, and the code is more convoluted, though most canned
packages are "a fun vacation into wonderland".

It depends on what you need and what you are willing to "live with".
If you will be happy with a fully canned package, Cost of ownership will
only be your upfront fees, but if you need to customize, JDE people are
everywhere, but a tad more expensive than the average "Joe", on the other
hand, an experienced Infinium person is harder to find, but in most cases
less expensive.

You can ask for demos from all the major players, then you can see how they
work, and what will work for your company - make sure to have some of the
end-users there - I have seen too may companies allow the IT staff to pick,
and the "bean-counters" are usually not happy with the end result.

Good luck.

Subject: G/L packages

Good afternoon!

Our accounting department is currently looking into the purchase of a
General Ledger / Accounts Payable package. We'd like to get one that runs
on the iSeries. We are a finance company, so the package should be geared
to that. What packages to others on the list use and what is your
recommendation?

TIA,

Jill
