I am willing to bet that IBM had promotions in the past for 436's and the like. And these were ignored because these people thought the machine was 'good enough'. Meanwhile: - the customers competition grew, but they didn't - they moved more and more stuff off to other servers - their machine depreciated rapidly - they trashed their $5,000 PC-AT because no one would give them a trade in for a $1,200 new PC running XP Rob Berendt -- "Good enough, never is" Debbie Fields "Jim Franz" <franz400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 04/29/2004 09:36 AM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To "Midrange Systems Technical Discussion" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject Re: iSeries Weekly Update-content Does IBM really want back in the SMB market? I've got customers who used to say they were IBM "for life" until IBM started ignoring them (and BP's ignore them even more for lack of a margin and changing bp programs). They get a once a year call from an ibm telesales announcing promos for everyone else. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: <rob@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Midrange Systems Technical Discussion" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2004 10:21 AM Subject: Re: iSeries Weekly Update-content > Beats me, The chart at > http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/hardware/life.html > > shows that they still plan on new 800 sales beyond the end of April 2004. > Perhaps the sliding scale on what they'd give you on a 7xx box for an 800 > would be considered an insult by some?
