We also use a CL-program waiting on the console to start a restricted backup ending in an IPL (which does signoff the console). Most of the tapehandling is taken care of. (using a 3570 tapelibrary) In some very special case the tapedrive is sending a message to the console, but this rearly happens, killing the backup and starting QCTL starts everything within 15 minutes. All my systems with adequate backupwindows this every workingday! The tape operator places the tapes and start the program, this includes automatic skipping of holidays. It's been working for many years now without a hitch. If you're interested, I'll send you the CL source. Mike Berman wrote: > Is this possible.
