Might be that subnet issue that others have mentioned.  Just tried it 
again on my iSeries however and several PC's I KNOW are not on the same 
subnet show up.  So either I have some newer os/ptf  (details to follow) 
or have something configured in TCP/IP to do this, like default route or 
some such animal, or, our Cisco kid configured everything right.  All a 
bunch of WAG's.

I tried that right after posting my original question and it worked.  The
box & all shares showed up after that.  Can't figure out why weren't there
by default.  Thanks for the input.
