As I understand it, the answer is yes and no.  <grin>

It's not just the color of the front panel and which set of CD you use to
load the box.

The difference is the iSeries' use of IOPs.  The pSeries doesn't know
anything about these.  The CPUs are certainly the same; as are I believe the
buses and mainboard.  I don't recall if the iSeries IOAs are different from
the pSeries.  It's possible they are since they work with the iSeries IOPs.

Though the IBM's intent is to allow AIX to be run on iSeries, I don't think
you'll see OS/400 on pSeries.  It's alot easier to work around the extra
(from AIX point-of-view) hardware than to work around missing hardware.
IIRC, IBM in fact does this with dedicated Linux partitions you can have for
example an Ethernet adapter dedicated to Linux that isn't tied to an IOP.
