What?

That might work, but it's not the right answer.  If the AS400 is in the same
domain as the Exchange server then it should have the same domain name.

Instead, since your AS/400 doesn't handle mail for the domain you need to
tell it where to send it.

try the following:

ENDTCPSVR   SEVER(*SMTP)
CHGSMTPA   MAILROUTER('mailsvrname') FIREWALL(*YES)
STRTCPSVR   SEVER(*SMTP)
