Sounds like Ken's drives are exactly what they used to be.... We just
retired a 620 with several 2 GB drives in it, one had failed about three
years ago, but none since. Do you have maintenance on these? Doesn't the
AS436 support RAID? It might be time to consider upgrading, a 7xx will
support the guest 36 O/S and RAID on 8.5 or 17 GB drives (and should be
relatively cheap.)

Hi Ken, as400 disk are not what they use to be (there are several treads on
this list about this subject). I don't pay attention to life expectancy
anymore, I would suggest you to protect your disks with some level of raid
and keep going. Replacing the ones that crash when that happens. Remember to
always keep a good backup handy.

        Hello group...
I have a number of AS436 machines in our branches, that have
been out there running since 1998, that's
                about six years now.
I'm not exactly sute what the device numver is foe the 2GB
drives in these boxes, but does anyone in the group
now what the life expectancy is for these hard drives. Sorry
I can't be more specific about the drive type.

One crashed last year, and we spent almost a week to re-coup
it.
