Personally no, but a recruitment agency I once visited in the good old days,
had an F20 (I think).  Their office was broken into and all the electronic
stuff went, PCs, printers, faxes ... and the AS/400; I doubt the thieves
knew what it was they were taking.  Since they chopped off all the cables,
including the local workstation controller, I bet they ended up dumping it.

Crooks these days seem to steal to order, and they know what they are after
and leave everything else.  We had a spate of burglaries where they took big
plasma screens and left untouched PCs, and even Compaq servers and laptops.

                Me thinks a better tact would be to have IBM scrap any
serial number tracing scheme, and just let 
                lots of AS400's be stolen.

                Once stolen, the new 'owners', would then want to update
themselves , sign up on a maintenance contract,
                and voila!..the AS400 is now more popular than ever.(The
insurance companies might object)

                Five years ago, I read an article that indicated that MS was
prepared to lose something the the neighbourhood of 
                $500 mil annually, to stolen software, knowing full well
that it would expand the MS world, and those same 
                individuals would eventually be back.
                Sort of surfs on the boundaries of Ethics...
