DDM file "formats"

Hi all,
 
if I have a PF on systemA with a DDM on systemB pointing at systemA and I
change a field type on systemA (from numeric to alpha), do I need to delete
and the recreate the DDM description on systemB to get the field type change
to come across?
 
Or...?
