Am I alone in thinking ending support for W98 is a bit premature?
<snip>

In my view support for Win98 and ME should be ended. I don't want IBM to
spend any money on supporting desktop environments that are too old to use
the new tools.

Folks that are still running 98 and ME because Micro$soft wants upgrade
fees (Gee I still don't like Microsoft, but they are a business that
intends to make money for its shareholders) are candidates for a Linux
desktop. With Open Office and the new iSeries Access for Linux, most users
will have no problem switching over. The Linux5250 list has some of the
best programmers around working on a real serious 5250 emulator if you
don't like the IBM one,

True the graphical interface is not quite a good as Microsoft's but you can
get all the new goodies with the same memory and CPU on the desktop with
Linux, whereas MS would require a significant upgrade. Users will have
some adjustments, and desktop support may be an issue. IBM is stepping up
to the plate with Linux Support line offerings and will help where needed.
One other downside is there is no Domino client for Linux. OK I guess
we'll have to use one of the 10 dozen other mail/calendar clients, or go to
Bynari and get that mail product (the whole thing runs under Linux and
blows Outlook away)

Just like those of us who left DOS for Windoze kicking and screaming, we
need to leave behind the older versions of Windoze for a better technology,
a technology without the handcuffs, but then that's just me.
