Ok to do that if it is not mission critical for the web site. DSL if not
ordered properly will serve data slowly but download data fast. Make sure
the DSL has a fixed IP address and, oh what is the term, symmetrical data
speed. Any how that you have high speed up and down loads. Second make
sure there is a fire wall that will check for DoS attacks, buffer overrun
attacks, etc. Also make sure you can NAT the public IP to your AS400. You
do NOT want to put a public IP on your AS400. Also make sure your firewall
only allows port 80 thru. You do not want to open up all ports. If your
site has SSL pages, you will also need to open port 443.

You might want to look at port restriction on the AS400 using Ops Nav and
only allow public IP to the ports I mentioned. Then if they hack your fire
wall, you still have some security on the AS400.

Subject: hosting website on iSeries?

I am asking this question on behalf of a small company with a model 270.
They are currently connected to their ISP with a DSL line. The ISP is
hosting their website. What are the pros and cons of moving the website to
the iSeries?

I know that the standard recommendation is to use a separate system (or a
partition) for your website, but they won't be doing that. They are
considering running their whole show on just one box.
