What does "in favor of internet" mean? Email? Sockets? What?

RE: Paging software for the iSeries

Rob,

Check the web for Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP). It's not very
complex to get the basic functionality. The basic communication
functionality (dialing, connecting, etc.) is harder to write than the TAP
part.

I think I remember somebody posting a reference to some (free) source code
or product out here one time.

Be aware, though, some of the paging companies are doing away with their
dialup interfaces in favor of internet.

subject: Paging software for the iSeries

I am looking at adding paging software to our P50. However $10,000 from
Byteware seems rather excessive. That, and $1,500/year maintenance.
Granted it's nice looking and feature packed.

What alternatives are out there?

We want to stay away from an email solution. There are times when email
is down, (like disk too full), when modem paging is successful.
