Pat:

Best suggestion I've seen so far has been to make sure you have at least JRE SE
v1.4.1_02. There might be later ones. That's the latest I have on my W2K with
NS 7.1 and it works fine; one or two earlier ones also worked with NS 7.x.

It seems that IBM websites often try to use the latest and greatest little
twists that Microsoft can come up with, and non-IE browsers can stumble. It
feels like they're trying to force me to use IE at times and even the latest IE
with the latest patches. So far, I've barely stayed ahead with stretches here
and there where IE was all that would work. InfoCenter was particularly bad for
NS 6.x.

I read about IBM's commitment to investment protection while advancing the
iSeries. Nagging little issues such as these websites really make me wonder how
pervasive that commitment is within IBM as a whole; that is, does "IBM" even
understand the concept? It can't possibly be that hard to test the sites using
alternative browsers. At the very least there could be a notice to update your
JRE, but what I get when problems occur is something like what you saw -- an
erroneous suggestion or usually just a blank or hung page.
