I am aware of two organizations that are converting to Oracle. The last that I knew both of these conversions have ground to a halt. Both conversions are still "on." It is unclear if money is still being spent for licenses and updates however no further energy or effort is being spent. . Another conversion I witnessed was a conversion to a variety of free and nearly free software that was supplied and supported by a government agency. I understand that the conversion is completed. More people work in the office now so I guess the office manager would see the conversion as a success. I was told by a friend that much of the information they used to get is no longer available and its been decided the information wasn't important anyway. A small school suystem I am aware of converted many of their applications away from the AS/400, but they never moved Accounts Payable or Purchasing. I am not sure why not. --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 10:48:21 AM To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: iSeries to another platform and back To the list: At our local user group meeting last night, I sat next to a lady who is with a school district in suburban Chicago. She is being pressured by people (who think they know systems) into abandoning the 400 platform. Their BP is also hinting at abandoning the platform. Her question is this: Does anyone have any horror stories (that they'd be allowed to share) of organizations that have gone off on another platform, and then come back to the 400. I told her the Microsoft story, and she thought it was hilarious. Any help you can provide would be well received.
