Not really. It's more a case of management by airline magazine, and 
management by watching the Microsoft commercials. Gotta have Windows, you 
know? I told her to look into the GUI tools, etc. 

I also told her about my client that is 3.5 years into a conversion to 
Oracle with 1.5 years to go. This is a construction company whose owner 
got convinced he needed a graphical system. Never mind the fact that 
Oracle doesn't sell construction cost accounting software. Oracle gave him 
the names of a couple of consulting firms that would assist him in 
jerry-rigging the system to add job cost accounting (keep in mind that 
project managers manage by cost code, not G/L number).

Pretty sad situation.

Can she provide us or the BP provide us with the reasons that are given
to move to a different platform and what that platform offers in
addition to the iSeries.

That could give more ammunition rather than say Company X moved from
iSeries to Platform XXX and had a disaster when they can turn round and
say we're not getting platform XXX.

Are they simply following the BP - and why? Are there not other BP's
they can get?

To the list:

At our local user group meeting last night, I sat next to a lady who is 
with a school district in suburban Chicago. She is being pressured by 
people (who think they know systems) into abandoning the 400 platform. 
Their BP is also hinting at abandoning the platform. Her question is
this: 
Does anyone have any horror stories (that they'd be allowed to share) of

organizations that have gone off on another platform, and then come back

to the 400. I told her the Microsoft story, and she thought it was 
hilarious.

Any help you can provide would be well received.
