So far I have been hoping someone would tell me I don't have to go down this road (again) for just the reason you mention.

How about it... any happy TSM users out in iSeries land on V5R2 ? What are the frustrations and pitfalls I am looking at before this works for me ? :)

There are those books for TSM for AS/400.

GC35-0315-01 Tivoli Storage Manager for AS/400 Administrator's Guide
GC32-0279-01 Tivoli for AS/400 Endpoints User's Guide

But you should consider this, you can't restore Full System Backup from TSM.
