Joe, I agree with your sentiment completely. Unfortunately, iSeries shops have a history of being... thrifty. The VAR program was supposed to do exactly what you propose: bundle hardware and a value-add software package at a good price. If I remember right, it didn't quite turn out that way. Too bad, because you're very right that a thriving 3rd party market for midrange software/services would be profitable for many companies, including IBM. --buck
