Hi John, I have unlimited data with my SprintPCS vision card and it is $80/month. While that may seem like a lot, I was able to drop my $20/month ISP account so my effective cost is $60/month. I use it a lot when I am on the road( a lot), so for me it is worth every penny. YMMV. I also have a Treo300 (cant wait for the Treo600 to come out), and use it to access my AS400s and email when the laptop is not really needed. I havent worried about hotels and their comm charges in several years. They are obviously trying to recoop charges they have lost to cell phones and calling cards. When LD routinely cost .03-.05/min, their charges are robbery. cjg Carl J. Speed is supposed to be about twice that of a modem. It's not cheap but enables access from pratically anywhere. Personally, I use a Treo Palm/cel phone. I have access to corporate email, web browsing, TN5250, etc. While it doesn't really replace my laptop, it'll due if I'm out of the office for a couple of days. Battery life is the biggest concern. -----Original Message----- From: rob@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:rob@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2003 10:50 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: COMMON at Gaylord Palm, Orlando Never use the calling cards from your room - they do charge for that. Some hotels even block all 800 numbers registered to calling card companies. I had a gas station pay phone which blocked both 800-call-att and whatever the number was for MCI. Have you heard of a cell phone? However I can see your modem concerns. Rob Berendt -- "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
