NO TV ADS FOR ISERIES | Search400.com Al Zollar said the iSeries wouldn't be advertised on TV. Despite users' hopes to the contrary, the iSeries general manager says he's not convinced a TV ad would be money well spent. >> CLICK here for story: http://search400.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid3_gci926090,00.html Chris Whisonant Comporium Senior Mid-Range Systems Administrator iSeries Certified Systems Expert 803.326.7270 (W) 803.326.6142 (F) chris.whisonant@xxxxxxxxxxxxx M Lazarus <mlazarus@xxxxxxxx> Sent by: CWHISONANT@xxxxxxxxxxx 09/10/2003 03:28 PM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject Re: iSeries (non-) Marketing - part 24,566 Hans, At 9/10/03 02:58 PM, you wrote: >But then again, lower cost may well be the deciding factor between two >similar solutions. Since the hardware is so similar today, can't they charge pretty much the same? Yet the iSeries seems to be more expensive. I suspect that they do AIX to other Unix system comparisons to come up w/ a price for the pSeries, but the iSeries gets "niche product pricing," so we lose sales. This seems to be true even after you add in all the Unix "extras" (DB, security, etc.) Unfortunately, the classic 5 year ROI value comparisons don't fly today. It's "how cheaply can you get me set up on day one." And the /400 often loses on that one. When you combine it w/ the lack of proper marketing and brand line recognition, the deck is stacked against us. -mark _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
