There are some cases where you can get away with it; ie: you have the source code and time to implement complete error recovery/handling in an application. But more often than not, it is simply not feasible to do so. It would be trememdously useful to be able to control which users/groups are able to respond to which messages. Obviously, you don't want to be pestered every time there's a printer alignment message, but I doubt you'd want the receptionist determining that it's ok to ignore a data decimal error.
