I've heard the control panel is involved in the system license key, and that a scratch and reload of the DASD would not resolve that issue. However, the system license key is (I believe) intended to detect hardware changes like a processor upgrade, or potential ownership changes such as being powered off for too many consecutive days then being restarted. I'd anticipate that a reload of a different OS release would not trigger a new system password -- or at least it doesn't seem to on a OS upgrade. It should require software license keys, but then they have those for that hardware serial number anyway. I have no experience with it, but my SWAG is that it would be OK if they can reload V5R1. I'd love to hear the outcome though... Doug
