My company, which lives and breaths on manuals, recently converted a large
number of paper-based manuals into PDFs using a scanning and OCR technique.
It was quite successful I guess, but produced a similar result.  Perhaps IBM
have gone through a similar process, and in time we'll get everything in
html and genuine PDF format.  In the mean time we have to put up with this
PITB.

Maybe we could append a page offset to the filename.

Of course, if you have multiple documents open you'd
have to switch your mental calculator on/off 
repeatedly to determine where to go ;-)

I don't believe IBM put as much time into creating
their PDF documents as they did their Book Manager :(
