If I understand you correctly, you're looking for a way to know what programs use a given file, right? Actually, the command you want IS dsppgmref, you're just looking at it wrong. In batch (and preferably overnight - it's not quick) issue the following: DSPPGMREF PGM(*ALL/*ALL) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OBJTYPE(*ALL) OUTFILE(SOMELIB/PGMREF) This will result in a file that contains the files each program uses. Now simply run a sql or query over the file to find all the programs that use a file. -Walden PS. This is _NOT_ a perfect solution. There are third party products that do what you want much better. The DSPPGMREF solution won't find cases where an RPG program uses a file because a CL issues an ovrdbf before calling the rpg program, or similar "non-obvious" uses of a file. The third party tools will. ------------ Walden H Leverich III President Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 (208) 692-3308 eFax WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
