Yes, I think you have rightly pointed out the source of the problem. When we bypass that firewall ("raptor"), we can connect correctly . Thanks for the info Keith!!! ------------------------------ message: 10 date: Mon, 7 Jul 2003 09:29:46 -0400 from: keith@xxxxxxxxx subject: Re: telnet (client access or symtrax) to another as400 via internet It sounds like your telnet clients are attempting to use a telnet proxy on the firewall. Most firewalls do not have good support for TN5250. You may want to attempt to use a generic proxy to connect instead of you telnet proxy, but this would involve either using a different IP port or disabling your current telnet proxy. Check with your firewall admin for assistance on this one as each firewall has a different implementation of this type of feature. There is another as400 in another n/w with the same config. We wanted to use client access or another telnet client, e.g Symtrax to telnet to the other as400. After resolving all firewalling and connexion issues, we get the other as400 signon screen. (i,e we sign on to our as400 and then telnet the address of the firewall on the other n/w. There the firewall prompts for the ip address (private) of the other as400) If we use Client access, we note that the cursor positions itself one character before the user name input field. However it seems that whatever we type (which by the way would appear in small letters if the keyboard is in this mode) is not being correctly received by the other as400. On the password field, the input is not masked. If we use Syxtrax as the telnet client, we get the signon screen. But only the 'User Name' appears. Following that there is a continuous line up to the bottom of the screen. Similarly, input is not processed correctly . Any idea anyone? Thanks & regards Email : dahkow@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
