In a way, they all are.

Check the RPG IV (ILE) Reference manual on V5R2 InfoCenter for a full discussion of the program cycle. In the detailed chart you will see a point where it checks for a primary file - if not, it skips lots of stuff. So the "cycle" is, in a way of speaking, always used.

Position 18 on the F-SPEC controls this. Has to at least be one primary, so 'P' in that position. Can have secondaries, with 'S' in that position.

NOMAIN in the H-SPECs suppresses cycle code generation. In ILE only.

Use the cycle to handle input - it's the best, at least easiest way to do a lot of stuff in RPG. IMHO If you've done native record IO in C, you can learn to love the cycle. And F-specs. >8-()

Any RPG program can employ the logic cycle, including RPGIV (ILE to some).
The only way I know to identify a program that uses the logic cycle is to
inspect the source for a file defined as IP (input primary).

Out of curiosity, what will you do with this information?
