My web server http://www.scottklement.com went about 900 days without a single second of downtime before a recent power failure. When the power was restored, it went right back to serving requests. And, that machine is not just my web server, it also does various things with e-mail, some application programs, and services for other domains. My iSeries does not even come close to this level of reliability. We've only had this system for 2 years, and it's already had instability due to software bugs (fixed by PTF, but that required a re-IPL), a drive failure, and corrupt disk objects that meant the system had to be taken down to run RCLSTG. I think the reason people are impressed by the iSeries reliability is because Windows has made us think that an operating system that runs normally without crashing is some sort of miracle. It's not. It's what you should expect.
