730/2067-1509 here and we're in the same boat. Webfacing or something similar to ditch 5250 is not an option so we are basically stuck with an Enterprise 825-0873 as our only feasable upgrade. But with our budget and the upgrade costing over $400K (list) pre-discount it just isn't going to happen this year. So we'll ride the chassis for as long as we can and then upgrade. Yeah, I know we're losing our trade-in/MES 'credit', but there's nothing I can do about it. I made my case but the finance guys still said no. I'm sure you need the interactive you've already got, but do you need faster batch? We're growing so we do, but if you don't, it may make better financial sense to just stick with the 730 for a couple of years and then buy whatever's new when you actually need an upgrade. Or consider a loaded 810-0869 instead of an 825. No growth but if you don't need it, it is significantly cheaper than the 825. - John -----Original Message----- From: fergal.o'flynn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:fergal.o'flynn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2003 10:25 AM To: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: iSeries Upgrades ?? October 8th is the date IBM have set for upgrading iSeries machines. I'm really struggling here to figure out where we should go. We have a model 730 CPU 2067 interactive feature 1510. We have an application with up to 500 users using a green screen, being supported by an IT department using RPG and CL and Operators who manage the system. I see that we have three upgrade paths availble to Enterprise edition iSeries, but my boss is wondering if we can buy a Standard edition because they are so much cheaper and from there on use WDSc for developers and Ops navigator for Operations, and webfacing the application. Is anyone else thinking like this ? What upgarde paths are you taking ? I have seen very little mention of people going in the Standard edition direction ?? Why not ? What sort of companies will buy a standard edition and what will they use it for ? I feel that I'm really missing something here and there is should be very easy to decide which iSeries to move to.
