Jeff,

it surely depends on the amount of data. In my special case I had to
transfer about 2000 records per night to a SAP application interface. We
used in the past different methods for data transfer (excepted OptiConnect)
but we never measured transfer times, because there was never a time
problem. I wonder if there are somewhere statistical informations on actual
transfer times publicated.

I guess all those of you using DDM to transfer data are not transferring
large amounts of data, OR, I was just unlucky :-) Matbe I should look at it
again.

Bonnie,

We use DDM a lot for updates/enquiries between machines (at same location),
and don't have any performance issues (One of the machines runs our
website).

Cheers

Speed is not an issue here as we do it overnight. (we are not a 24 hour
shop) and the machines are physically located in the same building. I don't
know if I would try it otherwise. But I didn't know his situation.

In my experience DDM was quite slow at data transfer, though DDMF's in
conjunction with CPYF and RPG - very flexible.

We have two machines here and have to copy some files from one to the other
on a nightly basis. We have set up DDM files and it works like a champ. I
don't know if your situation would allow use of DDM files, but it was very
easy to set up and never gives us a problem.

Hi All,

I'll have a discussion with a customer about the best methods of data
transfer between two iSeries systems. The systems are already connected by
TCP/IP. The issue is to transfer periodically files from one system to the
other. In the past we already used SNADS functions as well as FTP. I
personally prefer SNADS, which would require the Anynet-Support. In previous
postings I read something about a slow down when Anynet is used (in
comparison with pure SNA or pure TCP/IP). Would this be remarkable? Does
Anynet realy slow down also the interactive traffic on a TCP/IP line? Many
thanks for any arguments pros and cons.
