I work with a rules based GUI system every day. The developers of the software I work with have done an incredible job - amazing me at every turn. But, no matter what the hype, rules based GUIs need some work to take your green screens to the web and make them look WEB. Few products can do rules-based the way it should be done - that is, to reduce the effort of the refacing exercise. Screen scraping (even rules-based), on the other hand, is much easier, but does not produce true GUI. Understanding the difference is important - and should be the first requirement when you are looking at these kinds of tools. If you want GUI, if you want WEB look and feel, the choices are different than simply screen scraping in a web environment. If you want screen scraping, it may be as "easy" as it looks. My advice: Decide whether you want GUI or screen scraping. If you want GUI, learn what GUI really means before you make any decisions on software. Then, match the product hype with what GUI really means. Trevor ----- Original Message ----- Subject: RE: HATS > Dang! Nice find Rob! Am contacting my BP now.
