Thanks for the heads up Patrick. We are looking at your set of API's compared to IBM's data encryption. I wish there was a way to change keys in our data base to other than the encrypted fields. For the most part, we do not care what the value is, just how many records we have with the same value. We are analyzing all of the programs and queries run over the file to see how everything is used. No small project. Patrick I have one question, does your set of API's take advantage of the cryptographic co-processor in any flavor? We are looking at possibly putting one in each of our boxes to increase performance. Chris Bipes -----Original Message----- From: Patrick Townsend Hi Chris, You actually have Triple DES APIs in your Alliance FTP Manager library that you can use for encrypting fields in a database file. The APIs are being used for some fairly high volume database requirements. Triple DES is accepted by Visa, HIPPA, and others for securing data. Of course, encrypting fields that are keys represents a bit of a problem. The key value is predicable after encrypting, but your query tools won't be of much use. It's better to arrive at a mechanism for keys that does not involve sensitive data. Patrick
