(Changed subject line) Paul, I've seen that attitude years ago when I worked for a consultant. One of the consultants was benched. The S/36 was new. I suggested that we train her how to operate it. The boss said no for exactly the reason you mentioned. Very shortly later we had to turn down a contract for a hospital willing to pay us consultant rates to operate their S/36 for a few weeks while their operator was on medical leave. That consultant firm has since went casters up. Rob Berendt -- "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Unfortunately, a lot of companies think that if their tech folks learn new stuff, it will be just one more thing to put on their resume' for the next job. If you look back at the job hopping that has gone on in the last xx years, I think that you'll agree to some extent that we've done this to ourselves. Accountants and engineers don't switch nearly as often as IT folks. _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
