Andy,

I said what? DOH! I think I was off by one byte in my memory refences......

You are correct.

6717's are in SPD cages.
6817's are in PCI trays.
4317's are in HSL trays.

All are 8.58GB 10K RPM units.

(Yes I know the SPD/PCI/HSL terminology is not 'IBM approved' but generally point at the correct tray...)

So Chris DOES want the 6817's

Anyone know where i can get more memory? for ME? :-)

Larry,

Because I gave conflicting advice earlier in this thread, I may be
feeling a little defensive so please bear with me. When I look through
the V4R4 System Builder, the #6817 is listed as an available feature for
the 170, the #6717 is not. The #6717 is listed as an available feature
for those machines and expansion chassis' with an SPD bus.

I'm confused, can you reconcile your advice with IBM's documentation?
What am I missing?

Subject: Re: 170 DASD

Chris,

The 6717 and 6817 are the same drive. 6717's mount in 170's and
6xx/7xx PCI
towers. 6817's mount in 270/820 and 5074 and it's ilk.

The 6607's are in the proper Physical tray however the connector
will be
incorrect for the 6x17 drives I believe. The 6607 has a 68pin connector
plus
address connector and power connector. The 6x17's have an 80pin SCA
connector
as I recall. So you can install the drives in the machine and use the
MFIOP
but you will need trays if you order 6817s as those will come with the
wrong one.

Hope this helps!
