We use some tools from Bradley V Stone (SPLTOOLS and MAILTOOLS).
One of the ways we are usings it for remote users is as such .
1st off I created a table where I maintain a 10 byte username for all of
the users along with a corresponding email address and their attachment
preference of either PDF , TXT or RTF .
2nd I created a special OUTQ for the emailed spool files . This spoolfile
has a DATAQ associated with it, which get populated with a record
containing the spoolfile attributes any time a new entry goes into a ready
status.
3rd Any entries that are created in the EMAIL outq will contain the
intended recipients USER ID in the spoolfiles USERDTA area.
4th I set up a job that runs all day and monitors the DATAQ for new
entries , when a new entry arrives it extracts the spool information as
well as recipients Email preferences and uses SPLTOOLs and MAILTOOLs to
email the spoolfile as an attachment to the recipient.

Technical Discussion
Hi Folks,
We have had our remote sales force ask that reports be emailed to them. The
normal routine has been to run the queries that generated these reports and
then mail them out. And obviously that takes time.
We are on V4R5 (hoping to upgrade be on V5R2 real soon on a new box.)
So is anyone doing anything like this ?
I'm aware of some of the third party tools. So any feedback on them would
be
fine. Also any home grown stuff ?
And this might be a stupid question, but if our AS/400 does not have a
public address, is this even possible ? We have a VPN setup where folks can
get to our AS/400 remotely.
Thanks,
Chuck
