ok ok I got your saying now. Yes it seems I was trying to think to hard. No wonder I smelled wood burning. A job running on the system can produce 50 spool files, but it only counts a 1 job. I dont know why I was making that assumption. I know the AS/400 keeps track of ALL jobs on the system, but I thought this was the place it kept a count of them at. Out of the hundreds of systems that I have ever kept track of, they usually had alot of spool files and alot of jobs running and a bigger number here and they pretty much amounted to, give or take a hundred or two, what they were suppose to be. This one here just struck me funny seeing I had more spool files than actual jobs in the system, never had that happen before. Oh well, thanks guys for all yall's help. I think You're thinking too hard, Steven. Read the help text for this field on WRKSYSSTS...The "Number of Jobs" count shown on the WRKSYSSTS display represents (here is a snippet from the help text): The total number of user and system jobs that are currently in the system. The total includes: o All jobs on job queues waiting to be processed. o All jobs currently active (being processed). o All jobs that have completed running but still have output on output queues to be produced. The number of spooled files on the system does _not_ equate in any way to the number of jobs in the system, other than the fact that as long as any spooled files for a given job remain on the system, the job will be counted as one of the "Jobs in System" shown on the WRKSYSSTS display. Since a given job can (and often does) create multiple spooled files, you can't make the assumption that you made here.
