If you have the system value QRCLSPLSTG set to the default, you shouldn't have to worry about this command. You are correct, the system makes spooled files appear to exist in *OUTQs, and in fact they really reside in multi-membered files in the QSPL library. Only if you ever have a run-away job that creates *LOTS of spooled files, once you have deleted the spooled files, if you were unwilling to live with the empty members in QSPL, until the number of days specified by QRCLSPLSTG, would you ever consider using the RCLSPLSTG command.
