Jerry, I read your earlier posting and didn't respond because it didn't conform to my expectations. What I expect is that on a 'D' IPL the system will 'walk the bus' for all devices which could be bootable. This should include both your tape drive and your CD-ROM. If the tape drive is varied on without error and contains no tape, the system should move on to the next possibility. I don't know if this is helpful or not. It sounds as though your system is not behaving as I would have expected.
