Unfortunately, no, there's no necessary DNS requirement. The name used is 
commonly simply the "Computer name" from the System>Network Identification 
property of the WinNt/2k system... the "Windows Network Neighborhood" name... 
the NetBEUI name. While this generally will also be the "host" name, there's no 
guarantee that DNS will even be in use.

I will have no control over the network setup and probably cannot rely on DNS 
being used. Obviously the iSeries knows, but there seems to be no way to ask it.
