Thanks Chris. That sounds like exactly what I need. However, I don't know enough about the LAN end of it to understand exactly what you mean. I will show the LAN folks your email and see if they understand it. How do I create a virtual IP on the AS/400? Thanks, Albert -----Original Message----- From: Chris Bipes [SMTP:chris.bipes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, February 28, 2003 8:36 AM To: 'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion' Subject: RE: Configuring a backup ethernet line What I did is create a separate IP for each line. Then I created a Virtual IP. I put the VIP into DNS and WINS. I added two routes to the VIP in our default router. The VIP must be on a separate subnet as the physical IP. This also gives OS400 the ability to do outbound load balancing on both Ethernet lines. Each Ethernet is plugged into a different switch and soon to be on different subnets. Christopher K. The second line is intended to back up the first line. Each line will connect to the LAN through different switches. The intention is if the first line or switch fails then the AS/400 (and all incoming traffic) will automatically use the second one. How do I configure that? To create an interface do I need an IP address for each line? _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
